The hCG Diet: What are Some Common Mistakes When Taking hCG Drops?

woman holding scaleIt is widely accepted that the average weight loss on the hCG diet is between 1 and 2 pounds a day with almost everyone losing at least ½ pound daily. But with such great results, why do so many people struggle to achieve these outcomes? The answer is simple — they are making an hCG dieting mistake. Below we have some of the most common hCG diet blunders that can cause weight loss stalls, hunger and even a lack of weight loss altogether.

  1. Cooking with Oil: In order to lose an extraordinary amount of weight with hCG drops, it is important to keep your fat and sugar intake as low as possible. Many people eat the correct foods in the proper portions, but neglect to realize that the oil or Pam they are using during preparation is halting their weight loss.
  2. Drinking Diet Soda and Tea: The only artificial sweeteners permitted on the hCG diet are Saccharin and Stevia — Splenda, sucralose and others are forbidden and may cause food cravings. The only beverages approved for the hCG diet are water, coffee (black without sugar) and tea (from a teabag).
  3. Skipping Phase I: The loading phase is a key part of the hCG diet and is especially important during the first week of phase II. If you do not consume enough fat during phase I, you may feel hungry and tired — this often leads to irritability and cheating during the first seven days of the program.
  4. Not Drinking Enough Water: For best results, you should be drinking a minimum of two quarts of water a day while on hCG. When you don’t drink enough water, it’s more difficult for the body to metabolize fat which leads to fewer pounds lost per day.
  5. Sleeping Less Than 8 Hours a Night: Getting ample sleep while on the hCG diet is essential. Make sure you don’t stay up late and that you get a sufficient amount of rest to maximize your weight loss.

If you do not follow the hCG diet plan exactly, you encounter the following risks:

  • Eating Too Much: If you take in too many calories while taking hCG drops, the hCG will not signal the brain to release stored body fat. This may result in little or no weight loss.
  • Not Eating the Correct Foods: The hCG diet-approved food items are permitted not only because they are low in calories and fat, but because of the nutritional value they provide. If you don’t get enough nutrients when on the hCG diet, you may begin to feel tired or hungry — clear signs that your body is struggling.
  • Burning Too Many Calories: An often overlooked aspect of the hCG diet, restricting exercise is an important factor when trying to lose weight with hCG drops. Physical exercise needs to be limited because you are taking in so few calories — if you get too much exercise, you will likely feel sluggish and hungrier than usual and may even burn off lean muscle.

Thank you very much for these tips. I believe each of these to be true. I have cycled the protocol about 6 times now and found that these are best practices. WATER is my best friend. I drink about 1.5 to 2 gallons a day. The rest room is my second best friend. The fat only leaves your body 1 of two ways. Sweet or urine.

I started the drops today. I ate ice cream and mini doughnuts for the first time in a long time too. Im a little nervous about this loading phase just because it feels so unnatural. I am, however, looking forward to pizza tomorrow for my last loading day. I was on antidepressants for a year after I was assaulted and nearly raped at work. In this year I have gained almost 60 pounds. I am only 4 foot 11 inches and have become extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. I went from a 6 pack to a keg before I even knew what happened…ugh! I have stopped the antidepressants and began watching my calorie intake and working out with no changes on the scale. I read a lot of good things about this diet so I am in! My metabolism has all but stopped and I have been slipping back into depression. I am really hoping that I can find success in these drops. I will keep you all updated. Please keep me in your prayers. Good luck in your weight loss goals.

Thanks Carmen!!!<3 I have to admit that I woke up feeling that I had taken back some control in my life. When I think about who I was before this happened to me I can barely recognize that person. My attacker has taken so much from me and I refuse to give him any more! I weighed myself when I woke up and the scale read 159.8 from 162.7 and thats only after 1 dose and Im still in my loading phase…. I hope this keeps up! The drops dont taste the best but its nothing I cant handle, especially if I keep losing a pound or two a day! Ill check back in tomorrow morning with my morning weight :-)

s Knect…I am sooo happy to hear that you are taking back control of your life. I can attest to how stress can add pounds. I too went through a dramatic, albiet not as bad as yours, life change. I gained forty pounds in a years time and no longer recognized myself. I start the load days tomorrow and I look forward to empowering myself. There are many things we cannot control, but we can control our reactions and how they affect the rest of our lives…kudos to you,and thanks for sharing your inspirational story!!

  • S Knecht:

Its day 1 of phase 2. I didnt gain anything during my two days of loading so im a little nervous that might hinder my phase 2 success. Im so excited and nervous! Kat, I wish you all the luck in the world hunny! Ill keep you in my prayers and will keep checking in. Lets do it together!

This morning is Phase 1 VLCD 3….FINALLY I lost some weight! This morning I weighed and I am down 3 pounds!! I was getting a little worried – I have read about people losing weight during the loading days and especially on their first and second VCLD days … but nothing for me :( But, I just know that this diet is going to be something that will work for me. Last night I stayed up watching Youtube videos of people’s weight loss to keep myself motivated. Usually by the 3rd or 4th day on a regular diet I’m throwing in the towel…but these drops are amazing and I’m not starving (as I usually am on a diet) even though I’m eating 1/3 the calories on most diets. I have to admit that sometimes my tummy gets a little rumbly, but not starving. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the rumbling go away? Increase drops? Spread food out over day instead of just 3 meals? What has worked for you guys?

I have just finished my third week and am starting into my forth on the hcg drops. I am happy with the results so far but aam also a bit discouraged at the same time. I have lost 18 pounds but was really hoping for more. I think I have my expectations set to high. I did stall then did the apple day, and that worked but then the next two days was stalled again. I don’t have a clue as to what I am doing wrong, I am following it to a tee ! The only thing I can think of is I used a pain spray on my back that has aloe vera oil, eucalypus oil, lemon oil, peppermint oiland rosemary oil. I forgot to read the ingredients first. That is the only thing about this diet you have to watch what you touch, and put on your body. I need lotion especially in the winter but am so paranoid about what to use ! Does anyone have anthing they can recomend for face and body. Some products don’t even list their ingredients.

Congeats and good luck to you all!!! Baby oil and baby of gel are what I use. Drink some green tea and lots of water to help with hunger. You can also try to space out your meals.
    Example:

    I hope this helps!

R1 P2 VLCD 14 down 14 lbs. I cheated over the weekend so it would have been more…

  • S Knecht:

Its VLCD20 and Im down a total of 11.7lbs. I have been kinda stuck for over a week but I still feel like I am getting healthier and healthier. The scale might not move as fast as Id wish it did but even if the scale isnt where I want it to be, I can def tell I am getting smaller and healthier. My clothes are fitting better and I feel GREAT! I have les than 3 weeks of VLCDs left and till have 20lbs to lose. I dont think Im gonna hit my goal this round but I am not giving up! I w dont mind doing another round or two cuz everyday I stick to the protocol I feel like I have accomplished somuch. I know the scale doesnt go down everyday but the fact that I am sticking with it is SO worth it! I hope you all are having great releases and great successes!
