Do You Really Need the hCG 500 Calorie Diet?

Many websites out there are now advertising “easy to follow” alternatives to the 500 calorie hCG diet. Some companies say that you can still lose weight on a 1,200 calorie diet while others are now recommending new foods that are not a part of the Dr. Simeons (pictured to the left) original 500 Calorie hCG protocol. But are these methods really effective? Fact of the matter is, the only way to lose 1-2 pounds of fat a day with hCG drops is with the original 500 calorie diet and permitted food options.

Rule 1: You Must Eat Only 500 Calories

HCG works by signaling the brain to rapidly burn off excess fat stores to provide energy and nutrients. But the same effect will not take place if a person is eating a normal diet. The calorie restriction is necessary for the hCG to work at maximum efficiency. If you increase your calorie intake above 500 calories a day, the brain will know the body is taking in food and will not have the same instinct to burn off fat.

The brands that are recommending these higher calorie diets are trying to make more sales. Many people aren’t ready to cut down their calorie intake to only 500 calories and 1,200 calories seems far less daunting. The problem is these people will not see results! While 500 calories a day seems difficult to stick to, it is easy to stay motivated when you lose weight and inches every day. Rule 2: Eat Only the Approved Foods

Although the hCG diet and drops combination is rapidly working to burn off body fat, you still need to eat carefully selected foods to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. The veggies, fruits, proteins and bread items you are permitted to eat are allowed not only because they are low-calorie and low-fat, but because of the nutritional value they offer.

    Quite true. Without the discipline to eat the recommended meals, we can easily put our efforts to waste.
